Matthew Sotelo

Instructor of Color Guard

Macy Harmison was born and raised in Katy, TX, where she went to James E. Taylor HS where she served as an Assistant Drum Major her senior year. While she was never spinning on the field, Ms. Harmison has always found all things guard to be extremely entertaining and creative (and harder to achieve than it seems).

She attended the University of Texas - San Antonio from 2017-2024 where she got her degree in Music Education. During her time at UTSA, Ms. Harmison performed with the UTSA Wind Symphony, UTSA Symphony Orchestra, UTSA Lyric Theatre Pit Orchestra, Zion Theatre Group's Pit Orchestra, and the San Antonio Community Orchestra. She was also a member of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, where she served as Vice President of Service for 2 years. Ms. Harmison has also taught masterclasses, private lessons, and served as a marching technician for a variety of MS and HS campuses in the San Antonio area during her time obtaining her Bachelor's degree.

In her free time, Ms. Harmison loves cuddling with her senior cats, tending to her houseplant collection, and spending hours in The Sims 4. She is extremely excited to begin her teaching career with such a fantastic, hardworking group of students here at Canyon HS!

Mr.Sotelo began his Colorguard journey at Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio Texas. Shortly after graduating high school Mr. Sotelo took over the program at Thomas Jefferson in the spring of 2014. Over the last 8 years he has worked with and choreographed for many different programs in and around the San Antonio area and began working with the Canyon Colorguard in late fall of 2021.

In 2016 and 2017 Mr. Sotelo marched competitively with Industry Independent at the WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio. He hopes to finish his degree in Mathematics, and begin teaching at Canyon High School full time while overseeing the Colorguard program.

What the student needs to bring/wear is:
- Solid Black Shirt

- Healthy Snacks

If you don't have one of these items, try to get as close as you can to the Attire so you'll be comfortable and able to move! It's going to be another AMAZING school year for the Canyon HS Color Guard!

The art and activity of marching is one that combines quality music with an effective visual presentation. Through consistent and positive instruction, it is the goal of the staff to provide our students and audiences with both a highly competitive and entertaining marching band/winter guard shows. It takes all of us to work together for the Canyon High School Band and Color Guard.

The goal of the Canyon High School Color Guard is to provide an opportunity for the students to participate in representing their school. The Color Guard is a group that teaches performance skills, builds confidence, self-esteem, and most importantly teamwork.
